Anecdote - using stories to make a point at home and at work. The blog www.anecdote.com.au has very nice business discussions about how stories can influence the workplace. It has several good discussions and ideas on employee engagement.

On their January 6 post they discuss the "Otis Redding Problem" and quote Otis Redding's song Sitting By the Dock of the Bay; “Can’t do what ten people tell me to do, so I guess I’ll remain the same.”

Anectode also refers to Bob Sutton's post on the Otis Redding Problem in the workplace.

Vintage Film Posters

I've just spend some time looking through some pretty, artsy, original Czechoslovakian film posters from the 1930's through the 1980's at
Terry-Posters.com. Many of the posters are available for sale in store at the Světozor Cinema in Prague and online. All the prints are original. For sale or not - they're all well worth browsing.

Jane McDevitt from Maraid Design Blog has a recent entry with the posters that she acquired at Terry's. Maraid's Flickr photostream also has many neat design finds - I love her collection of matchbox labels.

Optical illusion

This has to be the best optical illusion I've ever seen. The magnitude of the movement perceived in the leaves is incredible!

This picture was part of an article in Woman's Day. The magazine links it to a Flickr account that describes the picture as " found on some academic website". (It's sad and unprofessional that the magazine did not credit the author.)

After a brief web research I was able to track the original author: Akiyoshi Kitaoka. He calls it "Plastic Dongurakokko". For great tutorials on how to build optical illusions and other amazing images visit Kitaoka's website.

Hydrangeas everywhere

I've been seeing hydrangeas everywhere these past months. They were growing wild in Kauai and the Big Island.

The August House Beautiful had several of their spreads with hydrangeas. Every spread in July-August Veranda had hydrangeas in it.

I love them. My Mom loves to have them around the house, too. A little taste of home.

Stardust

Last week I came across a March 09, 2009 post on Adri Mendes' blog comparing the work of William Blake and Stardust by Neil Gaiman, illustrated by Charles Vess. http://adrimendes.blogspot.com/

Meredith Collins in the article Fairy and Faerie compares images of Vess and Rackham.

Track on Monday

My track workout this Monday: 4x1200m at 7:30min/mi, 1min recovery. The long run, track, recovery runs and pilates combination seems to be working for me.

Lost in Translation

Yesterday I came across ronsgallery blog, Lost in Translation. Amazing pictures!

It made me want to unearthen my DSLR and actually use it!

With K and D running around it's been so much easier to just grab the point and shoot. Then you see great shots and the difference is off-the-wall. Great photographer, great equipment and a bit of pre-planning for some events - awesome results.
